BEING ACTIVE IN VANCOUVER

Activity June Vancouver

Vancouver has a reputation for being a very active city. It doesn’t matter the time of the year or the time of the day, you’ll always see people of all ages outside running, walking, kayaking and taking advantage of Vancouver’s outdoor courts and green spaces. Not even the rain will stop Vancouverites, although some would then prefer to stay indoors and play basketball or practice yoga or wait until the weather clears up and go for a hike.

To take full advantage of Vancouver’s range of outdoor and active activities, make sure to check out this month’s social activities calendar.  Students will have a chance to try everything from ultimate frisbee to indoor rock climbing and soccer at Stanley Park. We’re even thinking of starting up a Eurocentres soccer league with games played at various fields downtown and in East Vancouver. Stay tuned for more information!

Those living in the Vancouver area are especially lucky because the city is surrounded by both mountains and water. The Northshore Mountains are only a short drive from downtown Vancouver and offer a multitude of trails to explore for every fitness level. If you feel like venturing a little bit further away from the city you can take a Club ESL tour up into Squamish and Whistler or over to the Rocky Mountains to complete some more hikes. Club ESL Representatives are at the school every Tuesday and Wednesday to sign students up for their trips. The nearby ocean and lakes also call for some time to be spent boating, swimming or even trying a new activity like stand up paddle boarding. The June 17th Pro-D Day would be a great time to take advantage of access to these activities.

Alternatively, if you’d prefer to leave the athletic activities to someone else, perhaps you’d like to join your classmates and teachers to see a Vancouver Canadians baseball game or a Vancouver Whitecaps MLS soccer game. Don your team colours and cheer from the sidelines with other fans at Nat Bailey Stadium and the iconic BC Place.

As always, if students have any questions about activities or things to do in the Vancouver area or even activity suggestions for next month, they can contact the school’s Social Activities Coordinator at the front desk at any time. Students should also keep an eye out for the July activity calendar being released next week. Football games, water sports and more are in store for next month!
