Never a Dull Moment in Vancouver

Car-free days are popular in Vancouver over the summer.

Vancouver offers a huge variety of activities to keep you busy when you are not at school.
Our activities coordinator, Michael, researches and offers a range of exciting activities for our students every Wednesday and Friday. Some of them are free, and some cost a little bit of money. Take your pick of which ones interest you the most. On days when there is no school-organised activity, our calendar still features ideas for activities you can do with friends so that you are never short of ideas for how to get the most out of your time in Vancouver.

If you are interested in people and culture, check out one of the street festivals that happen throughout the summer. Examples of these include “Car–free days”, when streets are closed and lined with food trucks and fun activities, or “Greek Days”, when the Kitsilano neighborhood hosts a huge festival celebrating Greek culture, offering Greek food in one of the most beautiful parts of Vancouver. At the dragon boat festival in False Creek, you can watch dragon boats racing or even volunteer as part of the huge team that makes this special Vancouver festival happen every year.
As well as these weekend activities, there is a host of evening attractions to keep you busy.
The Richmond Night Market, which runs on weekends throughout the summer, is hugely popular with our students. Entrance is around $5 and there are hundreds of stalls and restaurants to try. There is also a night market in North Vancouver: The Lonsdale Shipyards Night Market is on Friday nights and there is no entrance fee. If you don’t live in North Vancouver, take the Seabus over and enjoy a huge variety of food and entertainment. Taking the Seabus is something everyone should do at least once while they are in Vancouver, and the night market is the perfect destination.

Do you like movies? Every Tuesday throughout the summer, there are movies showing in Stanley Park. Bring a blanket and your friends and enjoy watching a classic movie in the open air (for free!). There are outdoor movies all around the Vancouver area, and throughout the week in the summer – check out the list below for one near you.

Finally, the drum circle on 3rd Beach in Stanley Park is well worth a visit. As the sun sets over beautiful Vancouver, strangers from all over Vancouver gather to beat drums and enjoy the summer. You do not need a drum to attend! Just go and enjoy the atmosphere and meet some locals. The drum circle meets every sunny Tuesday in the summer.
