American Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is an important holiday in the USA and takes place on November 22, 2018.  School will be closed at Eurocentres San Diego November 22-23 and many students will go on short trips to San Francisco, Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Traditionally, a big dinner is prepared and family members and friends come together to eat things like roast turkey, mashed potatoes, breaded stuffing, corn bread, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole and cranberry preserves.

It is a day to show gratitude for all the wonderful things that we have in our lives and commemorates a meal of peace between Early European settlers and Native American on Massachusetts in the early 1600’s.

Please try  making the following corn bread recipe:

Cooking spray

1 cup cornmeal

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup buttermilk

4 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled

2 large eggs

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F; spray cooking 9-by-13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.

Mix the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. Mix the buttermilk, melted butter and eggs in a medium bowl; add to the cornmeal mixture and stir until combined.

Pour batter into the baking dish. Bake until golden brown and the top springs back when gently pressed, 12 to 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool completely.
