Beaches of Vancouver

van beach

There are so many beaches in Vancouver. Be sure to check them out during your English course as they are all special in their own unique way.

English Bay is perhaps the most accessible of the beaches for students, as it is the closest to downtown. There are also a lot of bars, restaurants and ice cream cafes nearby so it’s a great place to hang out and improve your spoken English.

Stanley Park boasts three more beaches and it’s fun to walk or bike around and explore them.

While you’re in Vancouver be sure to also to visit some other beaches too: Locarno Beach, Jericho Beach, and Spanish Banks. These three beaches are just west of Kitsilano and are accessible by bus. Jericho has a large grass area, a wooded area as well as the beach. Also at Jericho is the Jericho Sailing Club. Even non-members can eat and drink on their oceanfront terrace. Although it’s crowded in good weather, this is where the locals go for delicious snack and refreshments while they are at the beach.

If you know someone with a barbecue, get a group together and barbecue on the grass next to the beach. You can also buy a disposable barbecue.

Are you feeling adventurous? Check out Wreck Beach! This is Vancouver’s famous nude beach. Before you go, there are a couple of things you should know.

Firstly, Wreck Beach is a place of fantastic natural beauty. Here, untamed woods run alongside long grasses and swamps, as well as the beautiful sand and ocean. However, while the scenery here is beautiful, the naked sunbathers are not always on the same level! If you’re hoping for a view of a lot of smokin’ hot models strolling up and down, think again!

A local tip for anyone who would like to experience the natural scenery without human decoration, go in the winter! In winter, Wreck Beach is almost deserted and still just as lovely.

Boundary Bay is a little further away. It will take you an hour or more to get there by bus, so see if any of your friends have cars. It’s worth a visit though. The beach is wide and at low tide it’s is perfect for skimboarding. You can see the US on the other side of the water and take a long walk towards it in ankle deep water.

All of these beaches have concessions, where you can buy snacks and ice cream.
