The Vancouver Public Library

The Vancouver Public Library

The central branch of the Vancouver Public Library really stands out, with its fascinating architecture.

This beautiful library offers resources on nine levels. As well as over a thousand ESL books, the central branch offers some other amazing facilities:

The Inspiration Lab is a recording studio where you can record and edit audio and video for free. You and your friends can book the space and make your own movie! The lab also offers free workshops if you would like to learn more about recording and editing.

The Central branch also has Vancouver’s only public rooftop garden, opened last year. It is open year round and is a great place to meet friends for lunch or sit in the sunshine and read.

If you want to borrow books or use the Inspiration Lab, you must be a member of the Vancouver Public Library. If you are staying in Vancouver for more than 6 months, you can join for free. Just bring your passport and your homestay or rental agreement to the library to get you library card.

If you are here for less than 6 months, you can become a member for $30. This gives you access to all of the facilities and to the wifi and computers at the library.

Reading is a great way to increase your vocabulary and it is also important to study, but remember that it is very important to speak in English too. While the library is lovely, don’t spend the whole weekend in there!

After a visit to the library, why not grab a coffee with friends or check out the Library Square Public House, located right next to the library.
